Em segundo lugar, procura-se analisar em que medida o incremento na competição eleitoral ao nível nacional tem contribuído para incentivar disputas locais e minar as bases tradicionais de poder nos mais de 5,5 mil municípios brasileiros.It identifies the main patterns of political competition in Brazilian municipalities.
