Berlim: the place to be.
| pt_BR |
xmlui.metadata.dc.description.abstract | As a symbolic city for both tragic and glorious chapters of history, Berlin,
unlike many European capitals and important large cities, does not expand exclusively
in a centralized way but rather consists of a network of different subcenters.
In its 700-year history, it has permanently undergone improvements in
different aspects, such as geographically, urbanistically and conceptually, always
being, each time, the reflection of the respective historical period. In this context,
social episodes have left as much vestiges in the city as technical developments.
Through their specific emergence or their later transformations, the buildings
and the city districts are a living testimony of past epochs and create a unique
urban collage: the modern Berlin.
Berlin: the place to be. The capital of the Federal Republic of Germany
incorporates much more than the exclusive political representation of Germany.
Mainly through its past history, combined with the development of a state, Berlin
occupies a special symbolic place both nationally and internationally.
The political scene in Berlin is divided into federal, state and local politics.
Due to Berlin s status as a city-state, state politics also extend to the needs of the
city as a whole, while local and communal politics are more widely distributed at
the district level, although Berlin is a unitary municipality.
In comparison to the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) elections, a
clear difference can be seen in the results of the Berlin House of Representatives.
While the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) electorate is concentrated in the
western part of the city, the voters of The Left (Die Linke) are a strong political force especially in Berlin s eastern part. In addition, the right-wing populist
party AfD (Alternative for Germany) tends to play a larger role in the eastern
part than in the western part of the city. On the other hand, the SPD (Social
Democratic Party of Germany) occupies a relatively constant position in every
district of Berlin. It should be pointed out that mainly in the richest areas of the
city, for example, Steglitz-Zehlendorf and Reinickendorf, voters typically support
the CDU, whereas in the socially weaker regions, such as Marzahn-Hellersdorf
and Neukölln, The Left is the political party with the best election outcomes.
It should be added that hip neighborhoods, with a trendy or alternative lifestyle,
such as Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg, generally sympathize
with Alliance 90/The Greens (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen). | pt_BR |
