Artigo The square against the ballot box : Bolsonaro supporters' challenge to the presidential election in Rio de Janeiro(2024) Vilas Boas, Marie-Hélène Sa; Tribunal Superior EleitoralIt looks at the occupation of the square next to the army headquarters in Rio de Janeiro the day after the second round of Brazil's 2022 presidential election. This mobilization brought together radical bolsonarist voters and activists calling on the army to undo the election result to restore the defeated president, Jair Bolsonaro. This study provides insights into the dynamics of collective action in the radical fringes of Bolsonarism. While resorting to a non-violent repertoire of action, namely the occupation of a square, the participants borrowed from the conceptions and logics of action of military circles. The standard theory of the success of participation points to its positive impact on the political system. However, since 2013 Brazil has been experiencing some important changes regarding both participation and representation. In regard to representation, the strengthening of conservative forces in Congress is taking place because of a large increase in private financing. We are also seeing that participation alone cannot change the composition of the system of representation. The events that occurred in Brazil in June 2013, which led to changes in the patterns of social participation, have attracted attention worldwide. The aim of this paper is to analyze these changes in Brazil and point out how they influenced the country s political system and impacted the organization of Brazilian democracy. The data show how MPL presented its demands without politicizing them, keeping itself a single-issue movement (Figure 1). They also show how MBL politicized the movement (Figure 2), transforming it into an anti-corruption movement positioned against president Dilma Rousseff.Artigo O que as teorias do reconhecimento têm a dizer sobre as manifestações de rua em 2013 no Brasil(2016) Pinto, Celi Regina JardimDiscute as teorias do reconhecimento como instrumental para a análise das manifestações de rua ocorridas no Brasil em junho de 2013. Examina três autores: Nancy Fraser, Axel Honneth e Judith Butler, descrevendo os pontos centrais da teoria do reconhecimento de cada um deles, para assim apontar as possibilidades e os limites de sua aplicação no estudo em pauta. A hipótese que norteia o artigo é a seguinte: nas manifestações de rua de 2013, a ausência de sujeitos coletivos organizados caracterizou uma condição de dispersão e fragmentação, resultando em uma demanda por reconhecimento antipolítica e individualizada.
