The US Supreme Court has been showing a trend of abolishing limits on election spending. On the other hand, the Brazilian Supremo Tribunal Federal issued a partial decision on April 2nd, 2014 striking down the Brazilian framework of campaign financing by individuals and legal entities. In this article I engage in a comparative study of both jurisdictions to try to understand if and how each of them differs in the understanding of subjects that are relevant for the resolution of the issue of private campaign funding.
