Religião e representação política : a presença evangélica na disputa eleitoral brasileira

Abstract

Analisa a atuação evangélica na política brasileira. O que entra em jogo no discurso deste novo ator político, qual a relação destes evangélicos com outras forças que compõem o ambiente eleitoral em períodos de efervescência política são questões a serem abordadas neste trabalho. Se nas eleições de 1998 foi identificada uma presença significativa no total de parlamentares eleitos, em 2002 este número atingiu o seu ápice, foram cerca de setenta evangélicos. No entanto, o mesmo não pode ser dito sobre a legislatura eleita em 2006, quando este número evidenciou uma queda drástica. O atual sistema político brasileiro contribui muito para este tipo de fenômeno, ou seja, a ascensão de políticos religiosos. O sistema partidário é muito frágil, os eleitores escolhem seus candidatos através de qualidades pessoais, e neste aspecto, 2010 não foi diferente.

It analyzes the evangelical performance in Brazilian politics. Some of the questions brought up in this work are what is included in the discourse of this new political actor and what is the relationship between these evangelicals and the other forces which comprise the electoral environment in times of political effervescence. If in the elections of 1998 a significative presence of evangelicals in the total of elected parliamentarians has been identified, in 2002 this presence has reached its ceiling, totalizing around seventy evangelicals. However, the same cannot be said on the elect legislature in 2006, when this number evidenced a drastic fall. Brazil's current political system contributes a lot to the ascension of religious politicians. The party system is very fragile, with voters choosing their candidates through personal qualities, and in this aspect, 2010 was not different.
