Entre a situação e a oposição : a competição eleitoral no Rio Grande do Sul durante a Primeira República

Abstract

Tem como objetivo analisar a dinâmica político-eleitoral no Rio Grande do Sul para as vagas na Câmara dos Deputados durante a Primeira República. Por meio do método comparativo, busca-se mensurar a competição eleitoral entre a situação e a oposição, através do levantamento do número de candidatos que disputaram às vagas da bancada gaúcha em treze eleições e do percentual de sucesso eleitoral. De modo a aprofundar esta investigação, serão analisadas as eleições de 1906, 1909, 1912 e 1915, com o intuito de identificar as estratégias empregadas pelos partidos durante as etapas do processo eleitoral. Por meio deste artigo, pretendemos demonstrar que a bancada gaúcha não pode ser meramente caracterizada como um espaço fechado e controlado pelo Partido Republicano Rio-Grandense. Pelo contrário, deve ser compreendida como um espaço disputado tanto pela situação quanto pela oposição.

It aims to analyze the political and electoral dynamics in Rio Grande do Sul for the jobs in the Chamber of Deputies during the First Republic. By means of a comparative method, it is intended to measure the electoral competition between situation and opposition, through the survey of the number of candidates that disputed the vacancies in the Gaucha's bench in thirteen elections and the percent of electoral success. In order to go deepen in this investigation, the elections of 1906, 1909, 1912 and 1915 will be analyzed with the goal of identifying the strategies utilized by the political parties during the rounds of electoral process. With this paper, we aim to demonstrate that the Gaucha's bench can't be just characterized by a closed and monitored by Rio-Grandense Republican Party. In contrast, it must be understood as a space disputed by the situation as well as the opposition.
