Busca avanzar en la comprensión sobre la participación política y electoral de
las mujeres en las elecciones ejecutivas en siete provincias argentinas de 1983 a 2015. A partir del análisis
de 958 candidaturas en 62 comicios provinciales durante 32 años de democracia ininterrumpida y de la
aplicación de veintiún entrevistas a profundidad a informantes provinciales clave; se estudiaron los tipos
de liderazgo partidario y los procesos de selección de candidaturas en los partidos políticos más relevantes
de cada elección para determinar los contextos favorables para candidaturas de mujeres en este nivel de
gobierno. Liderazgos fuertes, procesos de selección de candidaturas cerrados y cercanía al líder son tres
elementos que, al combinarse, muestran un contexto favorable para que las mujeres sean candidatas.
It seeks to advance the understanding of women's political and electoral participation in provincial executive elections in seven Argentine provinces between 1983 and 2015. This is done based on the analysis of 958 candidacies in 62 provincial elections during 32 years of uninterrupted democracy and twenty-one in-depth interviews with provincial key informants. The types of party leadership and the candidate selection processes in the most relevant political parties of each election were studied to determine the favourable contexts for women to be candidates in executive elections. Strong partisan leaderships with closed candidacy selection processes and closeness to the leader are three elements that, combined, show a favourable context for women to be candidates.
