It analyses, from the viewpoint of Hostile Media Phenomena (HMP) and Third Person Effect (TPE), how people who self-declare "left wing", "right wing" or "center" perceive the effect of the mass media in newspapers articles about actors Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) in Brazil. This research performed a survey with 162 people, before the 2018 elections. Data confirms the partisans' tendency (left wing or right wing) of perceiving media as hostile and to adopt restriction measures to mass media in a greater extend then non-partisans (center). The TPE was present in the three groups but with significant variation between them. By relating HMP and TPE this research identified interesting connections between these theories, although not always direct or proportional.
