O discurso pentecostal na política brasileira : notas sobre liberdade de culto, abuso de direito e legitimidade democrática

Abstract

Realiza uma análise acerca da influência da estrutura de poder religioso, em especial das igrejas neopentecostais, no processo político eleitoral. A metodologia de trabalho passa pela análise histórica do papel da igreja enquanto representativo aparelho ideológico de poder, de modo a contextualizar o recente e expressivo avanço de personagens ligados às igrejas neopentecostais no processo eleitoral, algo que vem sendo constantemente associado ao abuso do poder religioso. O estudo passa pela análise da Constituição Federal e da legislação eleitoral, em especial no que diz respeito ao abuso de poder e às condutas vedadas eleitorais. O presente artigo busca, ainda, realizar uma análise da jurisprudência do Tribunal Superior Eleitoral, trazendo a reflexão de que o combate a eventuais abusos do poder religioso deve ter a preocupação de, por outro lado, não restringir a liberdade de culto e a possibilidade do debate e defesa das pautas religiosas na esfera política, sob pena de deslegitimação do processo democrático.It aims to assay the influence of the religion power in electoral process, principally in neopentecostal churches. The methodology of work goes through the historical analysis of the church's role, as representative ideological apparatus of power, in order to contextualize the recent and expressive advance of characters related to the neopentecostal churches in the electoral process, that has been constantly associated with the abuse of religious power. The study is based on the analysis of the Federal Constitution and electoral legislation, especially regarding abuse of power and prohibited electoral conduct. This article also seeks to carry out an analysis of the jurisprudence of the Superior Electoral Court, bringing the reflection that the fight against possible abuses of the religious power should be concerned with not restricting freedom of worship and the possibility of discussing and defending religious guidelines in the political sphere, under penalty of delegitimation of the democratic process.
