Dessa
Electoral geography is a branch of human geography that enables the analysis and understanding of political dynamics at various levels, from global to local. In an increasingly interconnected world, spatial analyses play a crucial role in investigating the patterns and trends that influence electoral processes. The year 2014 was marked by political events both on the international stage and within the Brazilian context, particularly regarding elections. Consequently, the main objective of this study is to identify and contextualize the political events of 2014, highlighting the importance of electoral geography in analyzing these events. To achieve the proposed objective, analyses were conducted on the international political scenario in 2014, with a focus on the global dynamics that influenced electoral processes in various nations, especially in the Americas and Latin America. Subsequently, the analyses shifted to the Brazilian political landscape, identifying relevant national events and perspectives, and later to state-level political events, focusing on the state of Paraná. This allowed for the identification of the candidates for the governorship in the 2014 election, as well as the elected official who took office in January 2015. Additionally, the study provided an understanding of the social and historical context surrounding Paraná during this period. It is noteworthy that the methodological procedures employed for the analyses were based on the review of theoretical references, bibliographic research on academic websites, newspapers, and news outlets, as well as map analysis that enabled the understanding of the spatial distribution of votes in the state of Paraná. Thus, by encompassing these different levels of analysis - international, national, and local - the study aimed not only to comprehend the political events of 2014 but also to emphasize the importance of political geography and electoral geography as essential tools for understanding the complexities of political dynamics.
