Religiões e eleições 2012 em Porto Alegre

Abstract

Faz uma análise das articulações entre religião e política ocorridas nas eleições municipais de 2012, na cidade de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Inicia observando os movimentos dos candidatos ao executivo municipal em direção das organizações religiosas para obter delas o apoio que resultaria em votos. Na sequência, expõe o leque de candidatos provenientes ou ligados às instituições religiosas que compõem o pluralismo religioso local e suas tentativas de alcançarem a eleição para a Câmara Municipal de Porto Alegre. O cenário teórico em que se inscreve a análise repousa na ideia da proximidade entre o que definiu-se como religioso e político, enquanto instâncias igualmente presentes na constituição da sociedade civil brasileira.It approaches the articulation between religion and politics during the 2012 municipal elections in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. It begins by remarking the movement of candidates running to the city hall towards religious organizations, in search for endorsement that could translate into votes. It then exposes the array of candidates belonging or linked to religious institutions who make up the local religious scene's pluralism, and their attempts to gain a seat in Porto Alegre's Municipal Chamber. The theoretical perspective that undergirds this analysis is centered on an argument for the proximity between what it defines as the religious and the political as equal spheres in the constitution of Brazilian civil society.
