Revisitando as carneiradas : os irmãos Machado Rios e as disputas políticas em Pernambuco (1834-1835)

Abstract

O impacto da abdicação de Pedro I em Pernambuco provocou uma reviravolta na política provincial, gerando novos conflitos entre as facções que lutavam pelo poder local. As Carneiradas, ocorridas em 1835, foram um reflexo desta disputa. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar as Carneiradas dentro da perspectiva de luta entre as facções políticas da província, buscando identificar o que elas revelam de elementos caracterizadores das relações entre as elites políticas da época.The impact of the abdication of Pedro I in Pernambuco caused a overturn in the provincial politics, generating new conflicts between the factions struggling for local power. The Carneiradas, that occurred in 1835, were a repercussion of this dispute. The objective of this article is to analyze the Carneiradas from the perspective of the fight between the province's political factions, trying to identify what they reveal about the elements which characterizes the relationship between the political elites of that time.
