Analisa a imprensa diária de Detroit de 1865 a 1920 e argumenta que a condição política da
imprensa na arena pública e a seleção específica de notícias mudam conforme a esfera na qual a
imprensa está institucionalizada, se o sistema político, a sociedade civil ou o mercado. O séc. 19
manteve fortes ligações com a sociedade política. No início do século 20 a imprensa migrou da
sociedade política para a sociedade civil.
It examines the daily press of Detroit from 1865 to 1920 and it argues that the political stance of the press in the public arena and its specific news selection will shift depending upon the sphere within which the press is institutionalized, whether policy, civil society or market. Nineteenth-century news maintained strong links with organized political society. The early twentieth-century press migrated from political society to civil society.
