Congreso nacional.
In the context of the health crisis caused by COVID-19 and the effects of the economic crisis, Argentina held the open, simultaneous, and mandatory primary elections (PASO) on September 12, 2021. They were used to choose the candidates that will compete in the November general elections for Congress (24 seats in the Senate and 127 in the Chamber of Deputies). Although at first there were attempts to suspend them, the PASO were carried out at a later date than the original one. The electoral campaigns were marked by the dispute between the two main political forces. However, other options emerged that managed to have positive election results and exceed the 1.5% threshold to be on the ballot in the general elections. If the trend is the same in November, the ruling party would lose strategic spaces in the national Congress.
